These planes are from the Pacific War Museum in Fredericksburg, Texas---birthplace and home of Admiral Nimitz. Only 8 of these TB-M Avengers were flown in the battle of Midway wvhen the plane first came out and all were destroyed or heavily damaged. After Midway (late 1942) the Navy learned how to use this plane as well as protect it and it became a major work horse for the rest of the pacific war. Your Dad was in the Battle of Midway per my Dad -- correct? But, he did not fly this particular plane until later -- he was not pictured/listed as one of the crew of the 8 planes. He most likely flew a Douglas Dauntless or a Douglas Devastator or possibly a Grumman Hellcat or Wildcat at Midway.
